Real Slides, for Real Employees for Real-World Presentations

Practice, Practical, PowerPoint.

FAQ

  • Who is this course for?

Anyone in business who uses PowerPoint to aid in their work. This course is NOT curated to make you 'Graphic Designer of Year' - this is designed for real-world employees to understand the functions of PowerPoint in a business context. Is this just for Sales and Marketing people? No. This is for all employees to apply the concepts back to their own work. However, we would say 'Business' is such a general term and it can mean many industries. It would be impossible to cover examples and exercises in every industry, and every job role. You will get to see sample slides from real businesses covering a range of industries including IT, Engineering, MICE, Finance, Manufacturing and more.

  • What makes this online PowerPoint course different?

There are many online courses out there on PowerPoint - but they either just run through the functions without context to real business slides. Or they focus too much on graphics and design. In some cases they just specialize in single topics. This course is NOT designed to make employees 'designer of the year' or only know how to create 'consultancy' types of slides. Here we try to provide you a complete experience in all aspects of PowerPoint from a business perspective. From media design to content design. This is about learning the mechanisms and applying them back to your own work.

  • I don't see content addressed much in other courses, will it be here?

Yes, absolutely. Design aside, the messaging of your slides is the bread and butter of your presentations. We'll obviously show the 'before' and 'after', but more importantly the thinking process of why certain content is done 'like this', or messages 'like that'. We'll show your the issues in content writing, the Assertion-Evidence model and document design.

  • Will you show real slides from real people, not just agency looking slides?

Yes, this is not about showing you amazing Agency slides done by Designers using Adobe. As normal employees who have time constraints, workloads and other matters to attend to, we don't have all-day to spend on graphic design (but that doesn't mean it should look ugly or inconsistent with the corporate brand). So these exercises and the mechanisms you'll learn will support your day-to-day work in producing slides.

  • Are there any Prerequisites for learning?

Yes. This is an Intermediate-to-Advanced Level course. But participants who are familiar with the PowerPoint environment, (but might consider themselves as 'knowing the basics') could handle this course. Each section is designed to start easy and then progressively level up.

  • Are there any technical prerequisites?

Yes. It might seem obvious but you will need Internet access. This is mentioned because we understand some companies may restrict access. This course will be running and taught based on the PC Windows software. This is NOT the Mac version. Check before signing up on compatibility differences from the appropriate vendor sites. We will be using the latest Office 365 subscription version. If you have earlier versions or Product Activated versions of 2016 and 2013, then some features will not be available to you. Such as .fbx 3D Models, Morph, Icons, Drawing, and others. See the Microsoft website for product comparisons.

  • Do I need to download or use any other application?

No. We take it from the view point of being at work - and all you have is PowerPoint. Companies have different guidelines about what type of access people have to download third-party apps or add-ons. The reality for most companies is you won't be able to. So, we don't cheat and do things in Photoshop or use any externals tools - all you need is PowerPoint 365 subscription version.

  • Is this a presentation course?

No. This is a practical course to learn the functions of PowerPoint in a business context. Although we touch on content, we will not be going into delivery frameworks, Structuring the Narrative, SCQA, body langauge, etc.

  • What will I get in the course?

Aside from all the video lessons, you will receive the downloads that will allow you to follow along with the video exercises. These will include the actual slides, icons, images, video and 3D models.

What customers have said...

"I didn't know PowerPoint could do that!"

Janice Ang

My slides didn't look great and my boss complained its was too full of bullet points. I was asked to make it look more professional and this course taught what I needed to make those changes. I especially liked learning to put message-headers on my slides to cut down the text.
